The Department of Justice estimates that approximately 7.7 million U.S. college students aged 18-24 experienced violent crimes including rape, robbery, aggravated assault, and simple assault each year.

College student victims of violence reported that the offender was perceived to be under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. Alcohol doesn’t cause this behavior, but it is a causal factor.
